Field Trip Volunteer
New Haven Reads
Field trip volunteers work in pairs to help run the field trips program for Pre-K through 5th grade classes from the Greater New Haven area. During each class visit, volunteers read stories out loud and help each student pick out five books. We ask for a commitment of one field trip per week for an entire school year (approx. 1.5 hours). Field trips visit Tuesday-Friday mornings at 10AM. We provide On-site orientation prior to your first field trip, and shadowing is also an option. The Soundview Family YMCA team, in collaboration with the Branford Board of Education, is teaching your children to be safe in and around the water. The Y’s Safety Around Water program teaches children of all ages and from all backgrounds that water can be fun, not scary. Knowing how to be safe around water is one of the most important life skills we can teach our children - it gives them confidence, and can save their lives. The YMCA is looking for volunteers to help swim instruction. New Haven Reads
Literacy Tutors provide one-on-one reading instruction for students from 1st to 12th grade. You don’t need any prior experience teaching or working with children, just a love of reading and a desire to help a child succeed. We ask for a commitment of one hour per week, Monday-Friday 3-7pm or Saturday 10-2pm. Our tutors are trained in the New Haven Reads model which follows the science of reading. We provide a required one hour training session and a site orientation before your first session. Dudley Farm Camp Counselor-in-Training (CIT) ProgramAre you 14–17 years old and looking for a fun, hands-on way to earn volunteer hours while gaining valuable leadership experience? Join the Dudley Farm Camp Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program!CITs work alongside camp counselors to help create a fun, safe, and engaging experience for younger campers. Responsibilities may include assisting with farm animals, gardening, crafts, games, water activities, demonstrations, and other hands-on camp experiences. CITs will also have opportunities to develop leadership, communication, teamwork, and mentoring skills while learning more about Dudley Farm and its historic agricultural traditions. Camp is Monday-Friday from 9AM to 1PM.CITs may choose which weeks in July 2027 they would like to participate, making it easy to fit the program around other summer plans. This is a volunteer position. The Guilford Fund for Education (GFFE) is a Donor Advised Fund managed by The Guilford Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization. Through the work of an all-volunteer committee, GFFE gives educators and students in Guilford, CT an avenue to explore, experiment, and bring fresh educational ideas and experiences to youth by funding proposals which fall outside of an organization’s budget.The GFFE is looking for volunteers to step into roles as liaisons to our various school buildings, staff our events like the Spelling Bee and Bee Ball tournament, and generally assist the organization its mission.

Guilford A Better Chance (GABC) Host Family Program

HOST FAMILY PROGRAMCurious about what a "host family" does? Just curious to learn more about a really integral part of A Better Chance? Host Families are special people with a strong desire and commitment to welcome A Better Chance Scholars into their homes as members of their families. Each scholar has a “Host Family,” and the commitment is (7) 24-hour overnights. They serve as an important bridge between the ABC residence and the local community, offering an opportunity to experience Guilford through family and local activities. Through Host Families, these young people gain a “home away from home” during their time in Guilford, and significant and long-lasting relationships are formed. Want to learn more?
